Unkar Rapid A distinctive major rapid against a 400 foot cliff on the south shore (actually east due to the bend). At low water it is possible to walk below the cliff, but that never happens now. The beach upriver from the cliff is easily accessible from the Escalante Route. The route downriver follows the top of the cliff. The overlook of the rapid is spectacular and traces of the extensive ruins on the Unkar Delta across the river can be viewed.

1985 October - Brief visit via Cardenas Route.
