Hermit Rapid — Three enormous standing waves make this one of the most impressive rapids and a good place to view rafts in season. The beach is very nice camping area, but this is a popular place and the mice and ringtails are practiced camp raiders.

Access from the upper camping area follows a trail alongside the creek through the narrows, and there is a direct, but well-hidden access from the Tonto on the east side. Remember this area can be very dangerous in flood.

1992 September - Night 2 at rapids from Boucher with CA Backpackers. We started from the beach in total darkness (alternating a pair of nearly dead flashlights) at 3AM to avoid the heat.
